So we've all had this moment where we're eagerly coming home from work (although now after covid, a lot of us still work from home, but let's pretend we're back at work) and hoping to catch up with our latest purchased video game. Only, that game that we were hoping to play has to update before it lets us start it. Frustrating is it not ? That is why I love old games so much. The whole content was on a single disc, no silly update needed, it was right there ready to play. Of course that also meant that if the game was poorly designed, it would be stuck with its bugs (I'm looking at you Superman 64!!!). But in some cases, the bugs would be part of the charm of the game and sometimes the bugs were funny and not game-breaking.
Right now I'm re-playing a lot of classic games from the PS1 era on my Steam Deck such as the Crash Bandicoot series, Resident Evil 2 & 3 and Tony Hawk 1 & 2.

I'm also re-playing some N64 games such as Super Mario 64, Golden Eye & Mario Golf. I'll be honest, I've never actually finished Super Mario 64! I know, I know, shocker lol.

We live in a awesome era right now where we can take our games with us everywhere we go. The Nintendo Switch is part of the reason why this became a thing. I mean, sure we had the 3DS and the Playstation Vita, but those were consoles with limited power. Then came the Switch in 2017 and everything changed.
Competitors started to erupt like the Valve Steam Deck, the ROG Ally and Legion Go to name a few. I actually bought a Steam Deck myself back in 2022 and it was the best purchase I ever did for video games. This gadget lets me take my games anywhere I go and since I travel a lot, it's a perfect fit for me !
What's even more awesome, is its ability to play retro games such as PS1, PS2, N64, GameCube, Wii, etc. I won't say how to do so, but Google is your friend. With some basic knowledge you should be up and running fairly easily. All you have to do is follow step by step guides. It's amazing to see how far we've gotten. I remember using emulators on PC way back in the early 2000's with limited results. Now we've got portable PC's that are capable of emulating PS2 games! Truly amazing.
On my Steam Deck I've also got a Steam library from my steam account, which is awesome to have in the palm of your hand ! Fallout 4, Control, Cyberpunk 2077 on the go ? Yes please !! Since my purchase of the 64GB Steam Deck, Valve has refreshed its models by bringing a Steam Deck OLED to compete with the Nintendo Switch OLED. I haven't had the chance to see it in action since upgrading isn't really worth it for me.
In short, there has never been a better time to go back to the classics wether it's to re-visit an old game or finish that every-growing backlog of games.
P.S. I'll do a through review of my experience with the Steam Deck soon. Keep it tuned to Sillystou's Reviews !
