Midnight In Paris Review

Midnight In Paris Review

I hope you like Paris because if you don't, then this movie probably won't be for you...

The movie starts off with a 3½ minutes view of all tourist spots in Paris, with only music to go with it. The *tour* ends when the night arrives. Owen Wilson plays Gil Pender, a writer who's having doubts about his book and Rachel McAdams plays his fiancĂ© Inez. It it clear at the beginning of the movie that Gil is in love with Paris. He even talks of actually living there, but his fiancĂ© Inez doesn't have the same opinion. While out on a diner night, Inez meets her friend Paul, a very intellectual man who pretends to know everything. Inez adores him because of his knowledge, but Gil absolutely hates him for his arrogance. After diner, Paul invites them to dance, but Gil refuses the invitation and decides to go for a walk, alone. That's when the real story begins.

I won't lie, I've never really liked Owen Wilson, and this movie doesn't change my view of him. I always find his characters to be exactly the same pathetic individual, complaining, boring. The idea behind this movie was interesting for the first half of this film, but it felt like Woody Allen stretched the rubber band too far.

I give this movie a 6.5/10 for the original idea.
