Coldplay Mylo Xyloto Review

Coldplay Mylo Xyloto Review

Wow, this album is very far from their Parachutes days. I remember when Coldplay was a synonym for simple guitar arrangements and complicated piano parts. On this album, the sound is very upbeat, very melancholic. It starts off with the very happy song "Hurts Like Heaven" and continues with the unbelievable song "Paradise". I swear, you'd never think this was a Coldplay song if you didn't hear Chris Martin's voice. With its beats, it almost sounds like a hip hop song. Don't get me wrong though, the song is very catchy. Then it's the powerful song "Charlie Brown", which has nothing to do with the comic strip. The next song "Us Against The World" slows down and really reminds us of their Parachutes album as it mostly features simple guitar riffs and Chris's voice. Despite saying there's 14 tracks on the album, 3 songs are under 50 seconds and are more like interludes. This album even features a song with Rihanna, "Princess Of China"! The first single from the album is the track "Every Drop Is A Waterfall" and the 2nd single is "Paradise".

One thing's for sure. You can't say that these guys didn't try to change their sound. Are there any filler tracks? Not many to tell you the truth. There's maybe 2-3 tracks that are filler tracks. There's "Major Minus", "U.F.O." and "Up With The Birds".

Despite the filler tracks, this album is pretty good! I give it a good 7.5/10.
