Lady Sovereign - Jigsaw Review

Lady Sovereign - Jigsaw Review

There are albums sometimes that you just don't know how to label. This album is one of those. Lady Sovereign is what you'd get if you took Eminem and turned him into a British girl. Lady Sovereign (who's real name is Louise Amanda Harman) has been around since 2003, but it isn't until 2005 that Sovereigh caught her big break. Jay-Z offered her a contract on Def Jam and she released a full-length record on 2006 called Public Warning. Jigsaw is her second album and it was released in 2009. This album is a lot more mature than her first. Lady Sovereign's signature sound is her over the top beats, samples and her thick British accent. She's definitely not shy of her accent.

With songs like "So Human", Sovereign uses samples from The Cure's "Close To Me". Actually, it's a lot more than just samples. It's pretty much the same melody, but with different lyrics.

Best songs on the album include "So Human", "Jigsaw", "I Got You Dancing", "Pennies".

For this highly original album, I give it a 7.5/10
