Jaws Review

Jaws Review
Jaws Review

There are not many movies out there that can claim to still be terrifying even after 36 years... Jaws is part of that group. Jaws was sort of the pioneer of scary animal movies. Take Deep Blue Sea and Piranha for example.

Jaws is a movie that even if I know the plot, can come back to and still experience fear. I cannot express how scared I was to just be in a pool after watching this movie as a child. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss. The movie's score was made by the well-known John Williams and the score plays a big role in the movie. I mean, who has never heard Jaws main theme? It still gives me chills every time I hear it.

So what's it about? The movie is about Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) who's the chief of police in the town of Amity. One morning he's called about an accident with a girl who was possibly attacked by a shark. He then decides to close down the beach but mayor Larry (Murray Hamilton) doesn't want that one bit. Many die after that, which forces Larry to agree to hire fisherman Quinn (Robert Shaw) to catch the predator. Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) works for National Geographic and is asked to come along for the trip to help them.

If you've never seen this movie, I suggest you go watch it right now. You'll see where scary movies came from. Despite the movie being 36 years old, it's still scary as hell. Apparently this movie will come out on Blu-ray in 2012. For now you can still catch it on DVD.

For the chill factor, I give this movie a 8/10
